Car stickers are a great way to customize and personalize your car. They allow you to let everyone know how proud you are of your honor student or show support for your favorite political candidate. Eventually, the time comes to remove those stickers from your used car. Maybe you’ve just purchased a Charlotte used car with stickers and want them off, we can help!
We’ve consulted our Charlotte auto body shop experts and have come up with an easy step by step process to help you get those pesky car stickers off without damaging the paint or leaving residue behind!
Our Charlotte auto body shop shares how to remove a bumper sticker!
Step #1: Gather the supplies you will need!
- Hot air hair dryer
- Razor blade (if removing sticker from glass)
- Plastic card (credit card, identification card, rewards card, etc.)
- Two small, clean towels
- Glass cleaner (if removing sticker from glass)
- Tree sap remover
- Detailing solution spray
Step #2: Clean the area around the sticker! To ensure best results, try this process right after a car wash at our Toyota Service Center in Charlotte! If the area around the sticker is dirty, the paint could be damaged during the last step of cleaning the sticker area.
Step #3: Heat up the sticker! Hover the hair dryer about four to five inches above the sticker. It’s important to remember to not place the hair dryer directly on top of the sticker as it could damage your paint.
Step #4: Keep the hair dryer pointed at the center of the sticker for several minutes and then begin to move the hair dryer around the edges of the sticker. Having the edges of the sticker heated up with help with Step #5!
Step #5: Pay close attention! If you are removing a car sticker that is on the paint of your used car and not on glass, do NOT use a razor blade. The razor blade will damage the paint! For removing stickers from the paint use the plastic card. With the plastic card and at an angle, scrape up under the edge of the sticker. Gently wiggle the card underneath the sticker moving toward the center. If removing from glass, carefully use the razor blade to get under the edge of the sticker and begin peeling it up.
Get rid of that old car sticker!
Step #6: Continue gently pushing under the car sticker with the plastic card or razor blade until the sticker separates from the used car’s paint or glass. It’s okay if the sticker rips or breaks apart.
Step #7: Once the sticker is removed, repeat the previous steps for any sticky residue left behind. Use a small amount of the tree sap remover on a towel to help remove any remnants.
Step #8: When the sticker and residue are gone, use glass cleaner to clean up the area, and voila! You’ve just removed that car sticker that’s been bothering you for a while now!
