It’s almost time to send the little ones back to school for the spring semester! If you signed up for carpool duties in 2017, we’ve got news for you. It’s not as easy as it seems! You need to come up with a detailed carpooling game plan before you hit the road, which is why Toyota of North Charlotte is sharing carpooling advice to keep you ahead of the game and carpooling like a pro!
Carpooling tips for an easier morning and afternoon:
Tip #1 – Get organized/prep for the carpool.
First thing’s first: you need to pow-wow with your fellow carpooling parental units to go over important details, such as:
- What is the route?
- What is the schedule like? (Who picks up who at what time, etc.)
- What are the ground rules both parents and kids must follow during the carpool?
Toyota of N Charlotte recommends you assign the same day or an entire week to one parent to avoid scheduling mixups! And be sure to create a group text or email for straightforward and quick communication.
DON’T FORGET to remind the kids who will be picking them up for carpool days!
Tip#2 – Be King/Queen of the car ride.
Do you know Charlotte Laws and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recommendations regarding children passengers? Knowing who should be buckled up where and how is an important N Charlotte Toyota safe driving protocol to follow always. Children shorter than 4’9″ should ride in booster seats, and only kids 13 years old and above can ride in the front passenger seat.
And absolutely no more than one child per seat — do NOT double up; it’s unsafe! Don’t take off until everyone is buckled up correctly, and be sure to follow the speed limit and instructions from crossing guards.
Tip #3 – Monitor drop-offs and pickups.
Another one of our N Charlotte Toyota carpool tips is that you remain vigilant during drop-off and pickup times.
- Remind the children who will be picking them up!
- Make sure children exit and enter the vehicle from the curbside.
- Keep an eye out for left-behind items like jackets, backpacks, and lunches BEFORE you leave.
- Avoid all distractions when driving in the carpool lane.
