Self-driving cars are one of the hottest topics right now! Do you want to learn more about this innovative technology? Toyota of N Charlotte is here to give you the inside scoop! Keep reading to learn what’s currently happening with autonomous Toyota vehicles and where this technology is heading.
Autonomous Toyota technology of the future
Bloomberg recently did a sit-down interview with John Lenard who works at a MIT professor and is the Toyota Research Institute VP of Automated Driving Research. They went over current artificial intelligence (AI) technology as well as some of the autonomous Toyotas that’re in the works. Lenard says that “Driving is the space race in tech in the 21stcentury,” and our team at N Charlotte Toyota couldn’t agree more! We know that Toyota is currently working on two versions of AI technology. The first one is referred to as Chauffer, full self-driving, or level 4. This AI technology is 100% self-sufficient and doesn’t need a human in the car to function. The second version that they’re working on is called Guardian and is designed to be used in human driven vehicles. It’s mostly there to support drivers in emergency situations and to help avoid human error. The autonomous Toyota technology will be running in the background and will only take over in an emergency situation.
Why should I trust my car to drive itself?
A lot of accidents on the road today are caused by human error. Autonomous Toyotas vehicles will probably have more perceptual awareness than a normal human driver would. That means that they will be more aware of everything that happening around them at all times. This technology will be very helpful in highly congested areas that have a lot of stimuli for the drivers, making N Charlotte autonomous Toyota vehicles great for elderly drivers or new drivers. But don’t start forgetting the rules of the road yet! Human driving skills are supposed to be very complimentary to AI technology.
When will self-driving cars be on the road?
If you aren’t ready to live in a world where N Charlotte autonomous Toyota vehicles are the only ones on the road, don’t worry! Experts still believe that human driven cars will still be on the road for years to come. That means that autonomous vehicles will have to drive alongside other autonomous vehicles as well as human driven cars. Just like the introduction of cell phones, autonomous vehicles will most likely be introduced in select metropolitan areas and spread out from there overtime.
